How to play BOWLS
- Choose Teams
- Win the Mat - Toss a coin to decide who starts. The winner decides who will place the mat and roll the jack first. (The player who rolls the jack and bowls first is the Lead)
- Set the Target - The Lead places the mat and then rolls the small white/yellow ball (the jack) down the rink (The jack must travel a minimum distance to be in play. Once it stops, it is centered)
- Bowl Alternately - The Lead delivers their first bowl toward the jack, aiming for it to stop as close as possible. (Remember the bowl will curve due to its bias! Aim to the side of the jack to allow for the curve)
- Opponent Bowls - The opponent (Second) then delivers their first bowl. (Players continue to bowl alternately until all four of their bowls have been delivered)
- The Goal - Try to get your bowl(s) closer to the jack than any of your opponent’s bowls. You can also try to knock your opponent’s bowls away or knock the jack to a new position.
- Count the Shots - Once all eight bowls have been delivered, determine the closest bowl to the jack. The player whose bowl is closest wins the end. (The winning player gets 1 point (shot) for every one of their bowls that is closer to the jack than the opponent's nearest bowl)
- Record the Score - Mark the shots scored on the scoreboard.
- Start the Next End - The winner of the previous end is now the new Lead. They pick up the mat and the jack, place the mat at the opposite end, roll the jack, and start bowling first.
